yELLOW soCKS oRCHESTRA
The Yellow Socks Orchestra is a French symphonic orchestra specialised in film music. It was created in 2015 by the uGo&Play production company and placed under the musical direction of Nicolas Simon.
The “Yellow Socks Orchestra”, literally “the orchestra with yellow socks”, is a nod to a convention still in place in some orchestras: musicians must always wear black socks, sometimes at the risk of having their salary deducted! In response, we took the opposite approach (...) and gave the musicians yellow socks!
The Yellow Socks Orchestra has had the honor of being conducted by great composers such as Michel Legrand and Justin Hurwitz. Under the exceptional direction of Joe Hisaishi, the Yellow Socks Orchestra also performed - with 250 musicians on stage - the finest music from the world of Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli).
The YSO also presents shows that highlight the works of renowned composers such as John Williams and Hans Zimmer, who have provided us with unforgettable film scores; as well as artists from the manga and anime universe with Manga Symphonic Odyssey.
Since 2018, a number of talented choristers have joined the group under the name of Yellow Socks Choir, with Frédéric Pineau as choirmaster. They sang with the orchestra on numerous occasions, for films in concert, as well as Joe Hisaishi and The London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for two sold-out concerts at Paris La Défense Arena in April 2024.

All of the shows featuring the Yellow Socks Orchestra are equipped with d&b Soundscape technology. d&b Soundscape is an immersive sound diffusion. Immersive sound can be defined as a sound diffusion format that allows the listener or spectator to be “immersed” in the soundscape.
It sounds as you feel it, as you see it and as it's been designed. It's a totally new experience.
It faithfully describes stage configurations to establish a visual and acoustic correspondence for each “object”. Each spectator now hears what he sees, and vice versa. With Soundscape, the creative possibilities go far beyond stereo and L/C/R loudspeakers, offering astonishing audio imaging, sonic clarity and control that align with the visual aspect of any type of performance.
